Coins were minted in all sizes, some less that 1/10 oz., others well over an ounce, but most popular worldwide were coins that contained about 1/5 oz. to 1/4 oz. pure gold. The U.S. Liberty Head "Half Eagle" $5 Gold Coin was the United States' contribution to the "Gold Standard".

The $5 Liberty coin is the only gold series in our Nation's History minted at 7 different United States Mint branches! The $5 Liberty coin design was popular from 1839 until 1929 when minting of all $5 U.S. gold coins ended. The "Half Eagles" have .241875 ounces of 24K gold.
