The first grading service is PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service). PCGS has successfully made changes in the coin industry to improve the way coins are bought and sold since 1986. PCGS offers a standardized grading system and a cash-backed grade guarantee. This has drastically changed the way the public views the rare coin industry.

NGC, or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, was founded in 1987 and also holds high standards of integrity in the coin grading industry. NGC focuses primarily on a consistent and accurate system for valuing and grading coins. It is often viewed as the leader in grading services. You can trust the experts at NGC to provide a consistent an unrivaled level of grading. Each coin submitted to NGC for grading is examined by three experts at the firm. After this, a final grade is assigned and the coin is sealed in a plastic holder. The grading experts at NGC are not active in the marketplace and are barred from buying and selling coins. Thus, their analysis is always impartial and accurate.

Last is the ANACS, which is known as America’s Oldest Grading Service. It has been in business since 1972. This firm was created by the American Numismatic Association (ANA). The ANA is over a century old and is chartered by the U.S. Congress. Thus, it ensures the accuracy and reliability of its services.
